What this test measures

Choice reaction time (CRT) measures how quickly you can select the correct response from more than one option — not just react, but decide. An arrow points left or right and you press the matching arrow key (or tap that side of the screen). Your score is the average response time across six trials, in milliseconds; lower is better.

How to play

When the arrow appears, press the matching ← or → key as fast as you can. A fixation cross warns you a trial is coming. Respond before the arrow shows and the trial restarts. Six measured trials are averaged into your score.

How to improve

  • Keep your fingers resting on the arrow keys between trials.
  • Stay relaxed — tension slows decisions more than it speeds reactions.
  • Compare your median across several runs, not one lucky trial.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good choice reaction time? Healthy adults average roughly 350–450 ms on a two-choice task in the browser; under 350 ms is fast.

How is it different from simple reaction time? Simple reaction time has a single response; choice reaction time adds a decision, so it is always a little slower.

Is it free? Yes — play it free in your browser. Scores save locally and sync after you sign in.
