What this test measures
Visual search measures how efficiently your attention scans a cluttered scene. You hunt for one target — a red T — hidden among distractors that each share one of its features: red Ls and blue Ts. Because no single feature pops out, you must inspect items in turn. Your score is your average time to find the target across eight rounds; lower is better.
How to play
Scan the field and click the single red T as fast as you can. The other items are red Ls and blue Ts, so you cannot rely on colour or shape alone. The number of items changes each round.
How to improve
- Resist scanning randomly — sweep the field systematically.
- The target shares features with everything else, so check colour and letter together.
- Search time grows with clutter; staying calm keeps it efficient.
Frequently asked questions
What is conjunction search? Searching for a target defined by a combination of features — for example red AND T — which cannot be found by a single feature alone.
What does it measure? Attentional efficiency, and how your search time scales with the number of distractors.
Is lower better? Yes — a lower average time to find the target is better.
