What this test measures
The Go/No-Go task measures response inhibition — your ability to stop an automatic response. Green GO cues appear frequently and you respond fast; rarer red NO-GO cues require you to withhold. Your score is the number of correct responses you sustain before three false hits (responding to a NO-GO cue).
How to play
Tap, or press space, the instant a green circle appears. Do nothing when it is red. The pace is fixed and quick, so the urge to keep tapping is exactly what you must resist. Three commission errors ends the run.
How to improve
- Set a tempo, but stay ready to abort — inhibition is the whole point.
- Most errors come from rushing; accuracy beats raw speed here.
- Treat the red cues as the real test, not the green ones.
Frequently asked questions
What does Go/No-Go measure? Response inhibition and impulse control — how well you withhold a prepotent response.
What is a commission error? Responding to a NO-GO (red) cue. Three of them ends the run.
Is this used in research? Yes — Go/No-Go is a standard measure of inhibitory control in cognitive psychology.
